Nigerian troops serving under the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, have neutralized 48 suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters and recovered 52 firearms following heavy engagements in Borno and Yobe states.

Military forces successfully repelled terrorist attacks on troops’ bases in Bitta and Natt Buni Yadi between October 29 and October 30. Operational details revealed that ground forces, supported by air strikes, thwarted an assault on Bitta on October 29 before launching a counter-offensive against a large force of ISWAP fighters in Natt Buni Yadi early October 30.

The coordinated five-hour battle involved integrated intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, reconnaissance, and joint air-ground assets managed by the Theatre Command.

During the operations, troops recovered 42 AK-47 rifles, five PKT machine guns, four general-purpose machine guns, one 60mm mortar, 105 AK-47 magazines, two video cameras, and thousands of rounds of varied ammunition.

One soldier died during the fighting, while two others sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical care. Operations are ongoing across the region to restrict insurgent movement and prevent further attacks.
