Manchester City could face a major points deduction and possible relegation from the Premier League over alleged financial rule breaches, according to the Daily Mail.
The report said the club could also receive a substantial financial penalty following alleged breaches between 2009 and 2018. City have challenged the reported findings and are said to have lodged an appeal. No final punishment has been confirmed.
One possibility is an additional points deduction at the start of the 2027/28 season, potentially complicating the club’s return to the top flight. Any sanctions affecting City in the Championship would require approval from the English Football League (EFL). Immediate demotion to League Two is considered unlikely in the report.
Meanwhile, City are preparing for their Champions League match against AEK Athens. Head coach Enzo Maresca said Ghana international Antoine Semenyo could be out for about eight weeks after sustaining a knee injury against Ipswich Town, with a possible return around December.
