The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) is preparing to intensify 24-hour traffic management operations during the Ember Months and festive season.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the strategy would address expected increases in vehicular and pedestrian movements, improve traffic flow and prevent avoidable congestion.

He said personnel and specialised response teams would be deployed to major interchanges, bridges, arterial routes, terminals, commercial districts and other congestion-prone areas.

The operation will include real-time traffic monitoring, intersection control, rapid incident response and prompt removal of obstructions, including vehicles involved in crashes or breakdowns.

Bakare-Oki said LASTMA would also strengthen traffic diversion and incident management while collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos Ambulance Service Agency, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and transport unions.

He urged motorists, commercial transport operators, articulated-vehicle and tanker drivers to obey traffic regulations and avoid speeding, reckless overtaking, driving against traffic, illegal parking and indiscriminate loading.

He also advised motorists to conduct pre-trip safety checks, particularly on braking systems, tyres and lights, before embarking on long journeys.

Bakare-Oki urged the public to report crashes, breakdowns and other traffic incidents through LASTMA’s toll-free short code, 3367, to facilitate rapid response and reduce clearance time.
