Hungary has pledged to strengthen bilateral relations with Nigeria in education, community development, humanitarian projects and other areas of mutual interest.

Hungarian Ambassador to Nigeria, Lóránd Endreffy, made the pledge at a ceremony in Abuja on Friday to mark the 70th anniversary of Hungary’s 1956 Revolution.

Endreffy recalled the October 23, 1956, uprising in Budapest, when demonstrators demanded freedom of expression, free elections and the withdrawal of Soviet troops.

He said Nigeria remained an important partner to Hungary, with cooperation spanning universities, businesses and local communities.

The ambassador said Hungary’s Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme offered more than 100 scholarships to Nigerian students annually, adding that over 2,500 Nigerian students were currently studying in the country.

He also highlighted Hungarian-supported projects in education, healthcare, water infrastructure and agriculture, implemented in collaboration with local communities.

Endreffy said there were further opportunities to expand cooperation in agriculture, water management, medical technology, defence and other areas.

He reaffirmed Hungary’s commitment to international partnerships and cooperation, while thanking Nigerian partners for their contributions to joint initiatives.
