China has called on the European Union (EU) to promote balanced growth and sustainable development in bilateral trade while ensuring the stable operation of global industrial and supply chains.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks on Friday during a regular news conference, responding to questions about the latest developments in China-EU trade relations.
She said the second meeting of the China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism had recently made positive progress, demonstrating that both sides could properly address differences through dialogue.
Mao urged the EU to honour its commitment to free trade and openness, comply with World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules, and avoid introducing protectionist or discriminatory policies and measures.
