Barcelona midfielder Rodri has disclosed details regarding his summer transfer talks, revealing a respectful direct conversation with Real Madrid manager José Mourinho before finalizing his move to Camp Nou.
Speaking in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish international acknowledged that Real Madrid had actively pursued his signature, with Mourinho personally reaching out to discuss a potential move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Detailing the exchange with the Real Madrid manager, Rodri stated:
“Mourinho called me and clearly expressed his desire for me to join the club. He treated me very well. When I made my decision, I called him to thank him for his interest and for how he treated me.”
Despite interest from the capital club, Rodri elected to join Barcelona, where he has since integrated into Hansi Flick’s midfield setup.
