The Katsina State Police Command says its operatives have foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued seven people along the Kankara-Dutsin-Ma road in Kankara Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said the incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m. on Sept. 21 near Unguwar Kanawa-Dantudu village.
He said the victims, a driver and six passengers travelling from Kaduna to Dutsin-Ma, were intercepted when suspected armed bandits blocked their Volkswagen Golf 3.
Aliyu said the Divisional Police Officer in Kankara led operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit to the scene after receiving a distress call, engaging the suspects in a gun duel.
He said the suspects fled following the intervention, allowing the seven occupants to be rescued.
The victims were taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and later discharged after being certified stable.
Aliyu said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, while the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar-Fage, commended the operatives and urged residents to provide timely and credible information to the police.
