Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing and reality star Phyna will face off in a celebrity boxing bout on October 1, following a recent exchange between the two entertainers on social media.
Nkechi Blessing and Phyna are set to take their recent online clash to the boxing ring on October 1, with the pair scheduled to face each other at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos.
The bout is part of Balmoral Group Promotions’ ‘Chaos in the Ring’ series, which brings entertainers into the ring for celebrity boxing contests.
The development follows a recent exchange between the two entertainers on social media. Nkechi had questioned Phyna’s frequent involvement in online confrontations, urging the reality star to be more careful with her interactions.
Phyna responded by questioning why the actress had addressed her publicly and brought up their previous communication over a possible movie project.
According to Phyna, the two had previously discussed her appearing in a film, but their communication ended after a disagreement over the timing of her response.
What could have remained another celebrity spat online soon took a different direction after Balmoral Promotions announced their boxing match.
Promotional material subsequently showed both women in boxing gear ahead of the October 1 contest. Nkechi has since embraced the challenge, sharing promotional material for the event and expressing confidence ahead of the bout.
The contest will make Nkechi and Phyna the first female celebrities to headline a bout under the ‘Chaos in the Ring’ franchise, according to reports on the event.
It is also scheduled to be broadcast live on DAZN and SuperSport. Balmoral’s celebrity boxing series has previously featured entertainers including Portable, Charles Okocha, Speed Darlington and Carter Efe.
Carter Efe defeated Portable by unanimous decision in May, while Charles Okocha defeated Portable in their rematch in July.
The October 1 programme will also feature a celebrity contest between Carter Efe and Speed Darlington, alongside professional boxing bouts.
For Nkechi and Phyna, what began as an exchange online will now play out under the lights, with both entertainers set to put their rivalry to the test in the ring.
