The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy skies, thunderstorms and moderate rains across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook, the agency predicted patches of clouds over the northern region on Monday morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rains expected across most parts later in the day.
For the North-Central region, NiMet forecast cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains across the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau states.
In the southern region, cloudy skies with chances of light rains were expected over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River and Akwa Ibom, with intermittent moderate rains forecast across most parts later in the day.
For Tuesday, NiMet predicted patches of clouds over the North, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Taraba and Adamawa. It forecast moderate rains across most parts of the region later in the day.
The agency also forecast cloudy conditions over the North-Central region, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Benue, Kogi, Plateau and Nasarawa, followed by moderate rains across the region later.
In the South, cloudy conditions and light rains were expected over parts of Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom. Thunderstorms with moderate rains were also forecast over several states, including Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers.
For Wednesday, NiMet predicted patches of clouds over the northern region, with morning thunderstorms and moderate rains over parts of Taraba, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe. More thunderstorms and moderate rains were expected across most parts later in the day.
The agency forecast cloudy skies over the North-Central region, with thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Nasarawa and Plateau, followed by moderate rains across most parts in the afternoon or evening.
For the South, NiMet anticipated cloudy conditions and intermittent light rains over parts of the South-East and coastal areas, with moderate rains expected across the entire region later in the day.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in affected areas and advised residents to secure loose objects and take precautions against possible damage.
It also advised the public to avoid driving during heavy rain, disconnect electrical appliances from sockets during thunderstorms and stay away from tall trees to avoid injuries from falling branches.
The agency urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports and flight documentation for effective operational planning, while encouraging residents to stay informed through regular weather updates.
