The Federal Government has announced plans to attract $750 million in private sector funding for local cloud and data infrastructure within the next 24 months, alongside the deployment of a 90,000 kilometre national fibre optic network.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, made the disclosure on Monday at the GITEX 2026 Government Leadership and AI Summit in Abuja.
He was represented by Bekearedebo Warrens, Permanent Secretary of the Political and Economic Affairs Office.
Akume said the initiatives are central to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s push to transform Nigeria from a technology consumer into a global exporter of digital solutions.
He stated that the newly introduced National Digital Cloud Policy sets an ambitious target of $750 million in private investment for cloud and data services, positioning Nigeria as a competitive hub for digital infrastructure across West Africa and the broader African market.
The planned fibre optic expansion is expected to significantly boost broadband penetration, improve internet access and support the growing digital economy.
