Nigeria’s men’s volleyball team have booked a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Nations Championship after defeating Algeria 3-2 in a thrilling group-stage encounter in Tunisia.

The Nigerians had to fight back twice after losing the first and third sets before eventually securing victory with scores of 23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20 and 15-12.

The five set battle lasted more than two hours, with both sides producing a closely contested performance before Nigeria eventually took control in the deciding set.

Nigeria’s head coach, Ryan Masajedi, praised the players for their response after falling behind, saying the team showed its ability to perform under difficult circumstances.

The victory secured Nigeria a place in the last eight of the continental competition and extended the team’s impressive run in the tournament.

Nigeria will now turn its attention to the quarter-finals as the team continues its campaign for a strong finish at the championship.
