A 40-year-old man, Caleb Dogara, on Thursday appeared before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N280,000 belonging to his nephew for school fees.
Dogara, a resident of Narayi, Kaduna, was charged with stealing and pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 5 at the same address.
Leo alleged that Dogara stole an ATM card belonging to his nephew and used it to withdraw N280,000 meant for the payment of the boy’s school fees.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017, which provides a five-year jail term for stealing.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant and provide evidence of two years’ tax payment.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 12 for hearing.
