A 42-year-old man, Gbenga Oluwadamilare, on Thursday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N2.2 million by false pretences.
Oluwadamilare pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences in May in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that Oluwadamilare conspired with others to obtain N2.2 million from one Usman Mohammed by false pretences with intent to defraud.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 421 and 329(a)(c) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Timilehin Omotosho, urged the court to grant him bail.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted the defendant N150,000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Oct. 8 for further hearing.
