Liverpool secured their first win under new manager Andoni Iraola, beating Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road thanks to an early double from Alexander Isak.
Isak wasted no time making his mark, scoring in the 6th minute after receiving a pass from Cody Gakpo. Just three minutes later, Gakpo set up Isak again, who finished neatly to put Liverpool two goals ahead before the ten-minute mark. Isak almost had a hat-trick before halftime, but his third effort was ruled out for offside.
After the match, manager Andoni Iraola praised the striker’s goals but emphasized that he wants Isak to help the team in every part of the game:
”He’s a massive player for us… he’s going to produce the numbers. My fight with Alex is how he helps the team in other things. He has to contribute to the group, and when everyone helps, the goals will come.”
The win gives Iraola his first three points since taking over as manager, moving Liverpool up the Premier League table after two draws in their opening games.
