A housewife, Naima Yusuf, on Tuesday approached an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, seeking confirmation of divorce from her husband, Bilyaminu Otu.
Yusuf told the court that her husband married her under Sharia Islamic law but left her when she was four months pregnant and had since shown no interest in the marriage.
The mother of one said she gave birth to a baby girl, now six months old, adding that her husband had refused to visit her or see the child.
“My husband has refused to visit me to see his baby.
“He told me that he was not interested in the marriage.
“All efforts to get him to come back and confirm the divorce failed,” she told the court.
She prayed the court to confirm the divorce and order Otu to provide for their child.
Otu did not oppose the divorce request and asked the court to grant his wife’s prayer.
“I will not be challenging my wife’s prayer for custody of our child until the baby is of age,” he said.
He also agreed to provide N50,000 monthly for the child’s upkeep.
The Judge, Malam Mohammed Shomo, adjourned the matter until Sept. 16 for further hearing.
