The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a stolen Hyundai vehicle in Abuja and handed it over to the police for further investigation.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Ohaeri said the vehicle, a red Hyundai with registration number YAB 789 AM, was recovered on Sept. 1 by the RS7.1 Federal Capital Territory Sector Command Tow Truck Team at Wuye, along the expressway leading to Area 1.
He said a document found inside the vehicle provided a lead that enabled the team to trace and contact the owner.
According to him, the RS7.1 Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, subsequently activated the inter-agency process for the vehicle’s handover to the police.
Ohaeri said DCC Sabitu Abdu, Deputy Corps Commander, Operations, handed over the vehicle to CSP Nimyel Ponfa, Divisional Police Officer of Wuse Division, on behalf of the FCT Commissioner of Police.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the recovery underscored the importance of technology, vigilance and collaboration in protecting lives and property.
Mohammed said the corps would continue to strengthen its vehicle identification and intelligence capabilities while maintaining collaboration with the police and other security agencies.
He said the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) had become an important tool for vehicle verification and national security operations.
“Under the current administration, 81 stolen vehicles have been recovered through the NVIS Portal, demonstrating the security value of the Corps’ vehicle information architecture,” he said.
Mohammed said the FRSC’s mandate to save lives on Nigerian roads was linked to ensuring that the road environment remained safe, secure and properly regulated.
He commended the recovery team for its vigilance and professionalism and appreciated the FCT Police Command for its cooperation, assuring that such collaboration would remain central to the corps’ commitment to safer roads, safer vehicles and a more secure Nigeria.
