Egypt has unveiled its first industrial robot developed domestically, with locally sourced components accounting for 80 per cent of the machine.
The country plans to increase the local content to 90 per cent after domestic production of the robot’s motor is achieved.
Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, described the project as an important step towards strengthening the country’s manufacturing capacity and developing more efficient and competitive factories.
Hashem said the project also demonstrated the ability of young Egyptian specialists to turn knowledge and innovation into industrial products.
He added that the ministry would support initiatives to strengthen the manufacturing sector, develop mechanical engineering and production lines, and create opportunities for young professionals.
The development comes as Cairo ranked 86th in the 2026 Global Innovation Index ranking of the world’s top 100 innovation clusters, compiled by the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
