Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has officially announced his retirement from international football at the age of 34, ending a distinguished career with the Lions of Teranga.
Mendy represented Senegal in 60 international matches, establishing himself as one of the leading African goalkeepers of his generation.
The major highlight of his international career came in early 2022, when he played a crucial role in helping Senegal win their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title at the 2021 tournament in Cameroon.
Mendy’s retirement comes amid continued international recognition, as he was shortlisted for the 2026 Yashin Trophy, an annual award honouring the world’s top goalkeeper.
Following his departure from the national team, Mendy will focus exclusively on his club career with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.
