Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled an attempted infiltration by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and rescued six kidnapped victims in separate operations across the country.
In Borno, troops foiled an attempted attack on Forward Operating Base Kawuri in Konduga Local Government Area after sighting terrorists advancing towards the base. The terrorists were engaged and forced to retreat towards the Yuwe axis.
During a search of their withdrawal route, troops recovered cannabis sativa, tramadol tablets, cigarette butts and a muffler allegedly abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The Army also reported that several suspected family members of terrorists, including women and children, surrendered to troops in Dikwa, Bama and Ngala between Sept. 19 and 25.
In Zamfara, troops responding to suspected terrorist activity in Tsafe Local Government Area engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee and abandon six kidnapped victims. The rescued victims were taken into military custody for further action.
In Plateau, troops foiled an alleged cattle-rustling operation in Sabon Layi, Wase Local Government Area, forcing the suspects to abandon 57 cattle. Troops also arrested a suspected kidnapper while allegedly collecting ransom in Riyom, recovering N1.9 million.
In Mangu Local Government Area, troops responded to an alleged militia attack on Lawet community, where 12 cattle were killed and another 12 injured, and later recovered several rustled cattle around the Pankshin area.
In Taraba, troops arrested a suspected drug trafficker at Atoshi Park, Wukari, following a tip-off. The suspect was allegedly found with 94 wraps of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa reportedly destined for Kano.
Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Maj.-Gen. Maxwell Dangana, held a stakeholders’ meeting in Barkin Ladi, Plateau, following a recent attack that reportedly killed six residents.
The meeting focused on reducing tensions and addressing persistent killings and reprisals in the area. Dangana also inspected proposed sites for the newly established 236 Tank Battalion in Mangu.
