A 22-year-old man, Musa Mukthari, on Wednesday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing two alloy rims and other valuable items worth N490,000.
Mukthari, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and another person, who is still at large, committed the offences on Aug. 12 at about 6 p.m. at Dosunmi Shopping Complex, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant and his accomplice conspired to enter the mechanic workshop of Allasaru Sikiru and used a device to open a customer’s car parked at the workshop.
He added that after opening the vehicle, they stole two alloy rims, a reverse cup and other valuable items valued at N490,000.
He said the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.
Fadairo adjourned the case until Sept. 8 for further hearing.
