Messi, who flew back to Florida late Tuesday night after attending his father’s funeral in Rosario, came off the bench at half-time to a massive standing ovation from the crowd.
The 39-year-old captain showed immense character on the pitch, creating four clear chances, firing three shots on target, and putting in a determined 45-minute shift despite his personal grief.
However, his efforts weren’t enough to save Inter Miami. Two second-half goals from Daniel Arcila powered Club León to a 3-2 comeback victory, knocking Miami out of the Leagues Cup in the opening group stage.
