A 30-year-old man, Chinmereuche Nwokonma, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over an alleged N5.7 million fraud.
Nwokonma, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant allegedly obtained N5.7 million from the complainant, Mr Adepegba Adeolu, under the pretext of supplying palatal materials.
He alleged that the defendant failed to supply the materials and converted the money to his personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 319(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N600,000 with one surety in like sum.
She ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and provide evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 20 for hearing.
