Liverpool have agreed a deal with Barcelona to sign Uruguay defender Ronald Araújo on a season-long loan, with the 27-year-old leaving Spain today to complete his move to Anfield.
Liverpool will cover 100% of Araújo’s salary during his time in England, giving Barcelona key relief on their wage bill.
The agreement also includes an option for Liverpool to purchase the centre-back permanently at the end of the 2026/27 season.
A full club-to-club agreement has been struck and approved by Barcelona sporting director Deco. Liverpool are taking on his full wage package for the duration of the season-long loan.
The loan includes a non-mandatory buy option clause, giving the Reds the chance to evaluate making the move permanent next summer.
The Reds urgently needed defensive depth after Ibrahima Konaté joined Real Madrid on a free transfer and Joe Gomez suffered an injury during pre-season.
Araújo is traveling to Merseyside today to undergo his medical and complete the final paperwork before joining up with the squad.
