The Bangladesh High Commission in Abuja has commemorated the second anniversary of the July Uprising, honouring those who lost their lives and reaffirming the country’s commitment to democracy, justice, equality and human dignity.
The event featured prayers, a minute of silence, a documentary screening and messages from Bangladesh’s leadership.
Speaking at the event, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Nigeria, Miah Md. Mainul Kabir, said the sacrifices of those who died during the 2024 uprising should continue to inspire the pursuit of justice, democracy, the rule of law and national unity.
Kabir also called for stronger ties between Bangladesh and Nigeria through trade, culture and youth empowerment.
The guest speaker, Rachael Neboh, Deputy Director and Head of Virtual Library Services at the National Library of Nigeria, described the uprising as a demonstration of the power of young people united by a common purpose.
She urged Nigerian youths to use social media responsibly, verify information before sharing it and channel their influence towards national development.
Neboh also encouraged young people to invest in skills acquisition, knowledge and innovation to prepare themselves for future leadership roles.
