Atlético Madrid have issued an official statement shutting down any possibility of Julián Álvarez joining FC Barcelona this summer.
Following a Board of Directors meeting, the club unanimously supported the strategy to refuse any negotiations with Barcelona, accusing the Catalan club of failing to act in an ethical and professional manner during their pursuit.
“The members of Atlético Madrid’s Board of Directors have unanimously expressed their full support for the club’s decision not to negotiate the transfer of Julián Alvarez to FC Barcelona,” the statement read.
“We fully support the position previously communicated by the club that FC Barcelona have not met these requirements and, as a result, there have been no negotiations, nor will there be any negotiations with them regarding the transfer of Julián Alvarez”.
Atleti added that they expect the Argentine forward to accept the decision and stay fully focused on helping the team fulfill its goals for the upcoming season.
