The Police Command in Anambra has introduced a monitoring mechanism to supervise checkpoints, patrol teams and other operational activities across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra Command, Nnanna Ama, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Awka by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga.
Ama said the initiative followed feedback from the recent Anambra Security Stakeholders’ Interactive Sessions held across the three senatorial districts.
He said the measure was designed to strengthen policing, accountability and professionalism, while eliminating extortion, harassment and other abuses.
“We have introduced a strategic monitoring mechanism through the Command’s operational control rooms,” Ama said.
He said the control rooms would maintain closer oversight of patrol formations and checkpoints across the state.
According to him, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders would account for personnel deployed to strategic locations.
The CP said reports and complaints concerning misconduct, extortion and other unprofessional conduct would be promptly received, monitored and escalated.
He said the command remained committed to effective security and protecting residents’ lives and property.
Ama warned that no police officer would be allowed to abuse entrusted responsibilities to exploit members of the public.
He directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to ensure strict compliance.
He added that personnel found engaging in extortion or other misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures under applicable laws and regulations.
The command urged residents to support the initiative by reporting extortion, harassment and other unprofessional conduct through established communication channels.
Complaints can be made through the operational control room on 07039194332 or the PPRO on 08039334002. A dedicated WhatsApp number for the CP, 09169531886, was also provided for members of the public to report incidents.
The command reiterated its commitment to professional, people-oriented and accountable policing, assuring residents that credible complaints would receive prompt attention.
