Things are getting trickier between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid over Julián Álvarez.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta publicly reaffirmed the club’s strong intention to sign the Argentine striker, confirming their official proposal remains valid through the final moments of the transfer window. While Laporta emphasized that Barça are proceeding with full respect toward Atlético Madrid, he made it clear that if Atleti are willing to sell, Barcelona are prepared to close the deal.
”We are still very interested in Julian Alvarez. We would like our offer to be accepted, and we are doing so with the utmost respect for Atlético de Madrid. Let them know that, if they are willing to sell the player during this summer transfer window, we would be ready to buy him, provided we can reach an agreement around the offer we have made to them… We’re getting the information that Atlético Madrid wants to sell the player, our offer remains valid until the end of the market,” Laporta stated.
Adding further fuel to the fire, Álvarez was absent from Atlético Madrid’s latest training session after feeling unwell. Reports indicate the World Cup winner believes it is his destiny to become the first Argentine player since Lionel Messi to win the Champions League at Barcelona, treating the switch to Catalonia as his ultimate dream. Although Arsenal remain attentive in the background if Álvarez ever reconsidered an external route, the striker has so far only pointed to Barcelona as his desired destination.
