20-year-old man arraigned over alleged N1m iron rod theft in Ota

A 20-year-old man, Seidu Abdullahi, on Monday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing iron rods valued at N1 million.

Abdullahi, who has no fixed address, was charged with stealing.

The prosecutor, DSP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 24 at about 6:58 a.m. at Donna New Site, behind Priority Aluminium Company, Ota.

Adaraloye alleged that Abdullahi stole iron rods worth N1 million belonging to Sonna Company.

He said the defendant was caught by the company’s security guard, who subsequently reported the matter to the police.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

She ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and provide evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until Sept. 8 for further hearing.
