Two men, Tochukwu Odogwu, 33, and Osoja James, 42, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over an alleged breach of peace.
The defendants, whose residential addresses were not disclosed, are facing a one-count charge of breach of peace.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on July 12 at the Veepee area of Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by engaging in a public fight.
He further alleged that Odogwu assaulted James by headbutting him after a disagreement arose between them over a dead dog that belonged to neither of them.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 83 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Fadairo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned until July 29 for further hearing.
