Police in Rivers State have launched a manhunt for gunmen who killed the Omoku Zonal Commander of the Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Mr Ozemela Nwaocha, and three women in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the attackers opened fire on Nwaocha and the women near his residence. She condemned the attack and assured residents that efforts were underway to arrest those responsible.
OSPAC spokesperson, Mr Nkem Godknows, said the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, alleging that the assailants shot Nwaocha multiple times before killing his sister and two other women.
He added that two other persons sustained gunshot injuries and are receiving treatment in hospital.
The police said investigations had commenced and appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could aid the probe.
Godknows urged residents to remain calm, noting that security agencies and local vigilantes were conducting patrols to maintain peace and security in the area.
He also appealed for greater support for OSPAC members, saying they operate with limited resources despite the risks involved in their duties.
