The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced a nationwide enforcement exercise to remove banned alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml from circulation.

The agency said the operation, taking place across the six geopolitical zones, targets markets, motor parks, bars, retail outlets and other distribution channels. It follows the closure of manufacturing facilities found to have violated the ban.

NAFDAC urged manufacturers, distributors, retailers and transporters to surrender any remaining stock, warning that anyone found producing, stocking or selling the banned products would face seizure, sanctions and prosecution.

The agency said the exercise forms part of a sustained campaign to curb underage drinking, harmful alcohol consumption and substance abuse, while clarifying that compliant manufacturers are not affected.

It also called on Nigerians to report anyone dealing in the banned products and avoid patronising them.
