Morocco’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Moha Tagma, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria, describing the partnership as one built on friendship, mutual respect and shared aspirations for Africa’s development.
Tagma made the remarks at a reception held in Abuja to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the ascension of King Mohammed VI to the Moroccan throne.
He said Nigeria and Morocco continued to deepen cooperation in key sectors, including trade, agriculture, security and culture, while championing initiatives aimed at promoting peace, unity and prosperity across Africa.
“From trade to culture, from security to agriculture, our partnership is destined to grow even stronger.
“As we celebrate Throne Day, we reaffirm Morocco’s commitment to continue working hand in hand with Nigeria.
“This is being realised under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Tinubu, to build a prosperous and integrated Africa,” he said.
The ambassador highlighted the Nigeria-Morocco African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) as one of the landmark projects symbolising the growing partnership between both countries.
“Just recently, in Freetown members of ECOWAS signed the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Nigeria-Morocco Africa Atlantic Gas Pipeline.
“This landmark project, initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016,and supported by His Excellency President Bola Tinubu, will be more than a pipeline.
“It will be a pipeline of prosperity, integration, and dignity for over 400 million people across 13 African countries,” he said.
Tagma said the project reflected the shared vision of both countries for a more connected, resilient and self-reliant Africa.
He added that the gas pipeline would serve as a catalyst for regional integration and position the Northwest African Atlantic region as a major player in the global energy landscape.
The ambassador described Throne Day as a celebration of national unity and an opportunity to reflect on Morocco’s achievements under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
“Throne Day is not only a celebration of the Monarch, but a celebration of the Moroccan people, of our shared values of unity, progress, solidarity, and openness to Africa and to the world.
“Over the past 27 years, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, Morocco has undergone a profound transformation.
“Economically, Morocco has positioned itself as a hub of stability, innovation, and sustainable development,” he said.
He added that Morocco remained committed to advancing South-South cooperation and African integration, guided by the principle of promoting Africa’s development through partnerships among African nations.
The reception was attended by government officials, members of the diplomatic community, captains of industry and other stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
