A 27-year-old man, Douglas Josiah, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Life Camp Magistrate’s Court in Abuja over the alleged theft of goods valued at N10.8 million.
Josiah, a resident of Akarak Village, is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, mischief and theft.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Olushola Olayede of Parakou Street, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuye Police Station on June 20.
Nwachukwu alleged that on the same date, Josiah and another suspect identified as Suleiman, who is currently at large, unlawfully broke into the complainant’s 20-foot container without his consent.
She told the court that the suspects allegedly stole goods valued at N10.8 million from the container.
The prosecutor further stated that during police investigation, the defendant allegedly made a confessional statement admitting to the offence.
According to her, the alleged offences contravene Sections 287 and 327 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Ramlatu Yusuf granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
Yusuf ordered that one of the sureties must be a Grade Level 9 civil servant and provide a valid means of identification.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 17 for hearing.
