A housewife, Bilkisu Yahaya, has asked an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage over alleged physical, psychological and emotional abuse.

Yahaya told the court that she married the respondent, Sani Muhammed, in 2024 under Islamic law and custom.

She alleged that her husband assaulted her, accused her of infidelity, prevented her from visiting her parents and forced her to stay with his younger brother in Lokoja, Kogi State, for seven months while she was pregnant.

The petitioner further alleged that Muhammed threatened to kill her.

She is seeking the dissolution of the marriage and an order directing the return of the respondent’s N100,000 dowry, an empty suitcase presented as a wedding gift, a bed and a mattress.

The presiding judge, Malam Mohammed Shomo, adjourned the case until Aug. 5 for hearing.
