A Jos Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 22-year-old driver, Managai Maran, to nine months in prison for possessing and consuming illicit drugs.
Maran pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal possession and consumption of illicit substances brought against him by the police.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Magistrate Irene Pati sentenced the defendant to nine months imprisonment with an option of a N50,000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Thiawur, told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station on June 20 by a police patrol team.
Thiawur said the defendant was arrested with six wraps of a substance suspected to be marijuana and a bottle containing another illicit substance.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened the provisions of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
