Court arraigns bakery worker for alleged flour theft

A 28-year-old bakery worker, Sarah Amos, was docked in Kaduna Magistrates’ Court in for allegedly stealing four bags of flour.

The defendant, who resides in the Malali area of Kaduna, is charged with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 28 in  Kawo, Kaduna.

Leo said the defendant who works in a bakery belonging to Garba Haruna, located along NEPA roundabout, Kaduna stole four bags of flour worth N350,000.

The prosecution said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

Amos pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to reports, Section 217 stipulates five years jail term for stealing.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000, with one surety in like sum.

He said that the surety must be gainfully employed and must present evidence of one years tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 5, for hearing.
