Federico Chiesa insists he is only “thinking about Liverpool” amid continued speculation over his future.
The 28-year-old Italian forward has endured a frustrating role in Merseyside since joining from Juventus in a £12.5m transfer in 2024, featuring mostly as a substitute and making just one Premier League start across two seasons under former boss Arne Slot.
Despite previously hinting at an exit if first-team opportunities didn’t improve, Chiesa made an immediate statement under Iraola by finding the net in Liverpool’s 4–2 pre-season victory over Sunderland. Speaking after the match, the Italian international reaffirmed his commitment to the Reds.
”Right now, at the moment, I am happy here at Liverpool,” Chiesa told reporters. “I love the club, I love the fans, I love everything. I am doing the best I can to have a chance here—and then we will see. At the minute, the only thing I am thinking about is Liverpool.”
Reflecting on the arrival of Iraola following Slot’s departure in June, Chiesa viewed the change as an opportunity to write a new chapter.
”It is always a fresh start at the beginning of the year,” Chiesa added. “Maybe there have been too many fresh starts, but I don’t care—I am trying to do my best for this new manager. Last year I felt ready for a bigger role, but it depended on the coach’s game plans and decisions. This year is a new chapter, and I have to focus on that.”
