Addis Ababa is strengthening its position as one of Africa’s fastest-growing tourism destinations, driven by extensive urban renewal projects and a rising number of international conferences.
According to the Addis Ababa Tourism Commission, the Ethiopian capital hosted more than 221 international conferences during the latest fiscal year, up from over 150 events recorded in the previous year.
The growth has been attributed to the ongoing Corridor Development Project, which has transformed key parts of the city and improved the overall visitor experience.
The commission said sustained investment in tourism infrastructure and public amenities has enhanced Addis Ababa’s competitiveness in the global tourism market and increased its capacity to host major international events.
Tourism has also become a key component of Ethiopia’s economic reform agenda, with authorities viewing the sector as an important source of investment, job creation and economic growth.
The increase in conference tourism has further strengthened Addis Ababa’s reputation as a leading destination for meetings and events in Africa, attracting international delegates and boosting demand for hospitality, transport and cultural services.
With upgraded public spaces, modern transport networks and an expanding calendar of international events, Addis Ababa is attracting growing numbers of visitors seeking both business and cultural experiences.
