Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in the state to strengthen security and combat banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The governor’s commendation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin by his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Agboola.
AbdulRazaq said the new battalion would boost security operations and improve responses to emerging threats across the state.
According to him, the military formation will be located in Omu Aran, headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area.
The governor also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for the prompt processing of the state’s request for increased military presence.
He further acknowledged the support of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their efforts in tackling terrorism, banditry and related crimes.
“On behalf of the government and people of Kwara State, I sincerely thank Mr President for yet another promise fulfilled to our state.
“We are confident that the new battalion will significantly strengthen counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across various parts of the state,” the governor said.
AbdulRazaq also commended the ongoing multi-agency security operations aimed at eliminating criminal elements, rescuing victims and flushing out bandits from forest reserves across the state.
