As the South-West suffers another abduction, five students of Gateway Polytechnic, Ogun State, have been abducted.
A statement issued on Thursday by the school’s Students’ Union Government President , Timothy Akinpelu, said the attack began at about 7:45 p.m, noting that several other students escaped through the ceiling.
Akinpelu explained that the assailants operated for about 30 minutes before fleeing with the victims.
He described the affected hostel as being situated in an isolated location surrounded by dense vegetation.
“The hostel is situated in a remote area surrounded by thick bush, making it vulnerable and unsuitable as a safe residential environment for students,” he said.
Akinpelu said several students escaped by breaking through the POP ceiling during the attack.
“By the grace of God, several students escaped through the POP ceiling, while others were unable to flee.
“We can confirm that five students were abducted during the incident,” the SUG president said.
He said the incident had been reported to the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies for immediate action.
The union expressed confidence that security agencies would intensify efforts to secure the students’ safe return and improve protection around student residences.
