A housewife, Fatima Lawal, has approached an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa, seeking the dissolution of her marriage to her husband, Saifullahi Ademu, over alleged domestic violence, neglect and lack of care.
Lawal, a resident of Angwa Baba Mai Doky, Mararaba, told the court that her one-year, five-month marriage to Ademu, contracted under Sharia Islamic law, had become unbearable.
“My Lord, I have no peace in my marriage. My husband beats me constantly. He does not provide for me.
“I have seen it, he does not love me anymore,” she said.
She further alleged that her husband sold some of her personal belongings, including cooking pots worth N70,000, a bedsheet worth N40,000 and a smartphone valued at N20,000.
Lawal told the court that although Ademu paid N90,000 as bride price, she was willing to refund the amount in exchange for the dissolution of the marriage.
“Ademu paid N90,000 as bride price and I am willing to refund the amount to him. I also want the court to order him to pay for my items worth N230,000,” she said.
However, Ademu denied all the allegations levelled against him.
Presiding Judge, Malam Mohammed Shomo, directed the petitioner to produce her witnesses before the court within one week.
The case was subsequently adjourned until July 6 for hearing.
