Two people were killed and two others injured after a plane crashed near Bemowo Airport in Warsaw, Poland, on Wednesday.
The aircraft went down at about 1 p.m. local time before bursting into flames, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
According to local media reports, the two injured victims were bystanders. However, authorities have not confirmed whether they were struck by the aircraft or injured while trying to assist those on board.
Firefighters responded to the scene and battled the blaze as the wreckage burned near the runway before eventually bringing the fire under control.
Police spokeswoman Marta Sulowska confirmed the incident, saying emergency responders were immediately deployed to the crash site.
“It concerned a light plane that had crashed and was on fire. Firefighters are on site. Police are securing the area, and all operations are ongoing,” she said.
The crash attracted the attention of residents in the area, with several witnesses reporting that they heard a loud bang before seeing thick black smoke rising into the sky.
Some eyewitnesses later shared their accounts on social media, with one claiming the aircraft appeared to be flying unusually moments before the crash.
“A plane crashed in Bemowo. It was flying strangely, which caught my attention. Then I lost sight of it, a bang and clouds of black smoke,” the witness wrote.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
