Fuji star Remi Aluko has said that his health situation is comparable to that of a blind person.
According to him, the glaucoma he has battled for years has so much affected his sight.
According to experts, glaucoma primarily arises from a complex failure in the eye’s natural drainage system, which leads to an unhealthy buildup of fluid pressure.
“Inside the front of the eye, a clear fluid called aqueous humour is continuously produced to nourish local tissues. In a healthy eye, this fluid drains out at an equal rate through a microscopic meshwork of tissue. However, if this drainage channel becomes restricted, clogged, or structurally compromised, the fluid accumulates like water in a blocked sink.
“This fluid backup increases the internal pressure of the eye, known as intraocular pressure, which directly exerts mechanical stress on the optic nerve at the back of the eye, gradually destroying the vital nerve fibers that transmit visual information to the brain,” an online source notes.
Aluko stated his condition during a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, explaining that his vision has deteriorated despite undergoing eye surgery in the past.
Aluko said he currently cannot see and lives with blindness, though many people are unaware because he carries himself confidently.
He noted that he has learned to manage daily life independently and deliberately avoids dwelling on his condition to prevent depression.
“I’m a glaucoma patient. I’m managing myself; I’m currently not seeing. Despite being a glaucoma patient, many people don’t know. There’s no difference between me and a blind person now, but no one knows because I don’t let my condition weigh me down.
“Thank God that I know how to take care of myself like someone who can see. I decided not to dwell on my condition because I don’t want to be depressed,” he said.
