Two men, Michael Shobitan, 24, and Mohammed Ibrahim, 28, were on Monday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over the alleged theft of building blocks valued at N950,000.
The defendants, whose residential addresses were not disclosed, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants and other accomplices still at large allegedly committed the offences between June 19 and June 23 at about 9:00 p.m. at No. 9 Adefarm, Iloye, Ota.
According to the prosecution, the suspects conspired to steal 1,320 building blocks belonging to the complainant, Babatunde Samson.
Adaraloye said the alleged offences contravened Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted each defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
The court directed that each surety must reside within its jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and provide evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned until July 6 for further hearing.
