A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old carpenter, Auwal Adam to 2 years in prison for stealing a bag of monazite (mineral substance)
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of theft brought against him by the police.
The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati sentenced the convict to two years in prison with an option of N100,000 fine and also ordered him to pay N370,000 as compensation to the complainant.
While reviewing the facts, the prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Thiawur told the court that the case was reported in May 16, at the “C” Division Police Station by one Yusuf Rabiu, the complainant.
Thiawur said the convict stole the monazite worth N350,000 from the complainant.
He said the offences contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
