An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a 23-year-old hotel salesgirl, Yusuf Sofiat, at the Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing N623,000 from her employer.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of fraud and stealing preferred against her.

Magistrate Abosede Sarumi denied the oral bail application of the defendant and ordered her remand in custody pending the formal application for her bail.

Sarumi subsequently adjourned the case until June 1 for a hearing on the bail application.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences between Feb. 18 and May 20, at No. 2 Star Hotel along Mokuro Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi alleged that the defendant stole the sum of N623,000, property of one Amoo Sherif, her employer.

He said the defendant breached the trust reposed in her by fraudulently converting N623,000 proceeds from the sale of drinks to her personal use while working as a salesgirl.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 390 and 434 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
