Acclaimed filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has shared fond memories with her colleague, Alex Ekubo, who has just passed away.
Ekubo died at 40 after a battle with cancer.
Mourning him, Akindele noted on Instagram: “Hmmmmmm. Rest in peace, Alex. I tried to reach out to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex. ‘Ore mi’, like you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together. Rest in Peace, Alex.”
Born on April 10, 1986, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Alex Ekubo hails from Arochukwu in Abia State. He is known for his tall frame, charisma, and strong screen presence. He is fluent in English, Igbo, and Hausa.
He attended Federal Government College, Daura, for his secondary education. He later studied Law at the University of Calabar and also obtained a degree in Mass Communication from Calabar Polytechnic.
Ekubo first gained national attention in 2010 after finishing as first runner-up in the Mr Nigeria competition. The exposure became a springboard into modelling and acting, leading to a steady rise in Nollywood.
He began professional acting in the early 2010s and has since featured in several notable Nollywood productions, including Lagos Cougars, Weekend Getaway, In the Cupboard, Dream Walker, Hire a Woman, Sugar Rush, Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons, and Fate of Alakada.
Over time, he built a reputation as a leading man in romantic comedies and contemporary Nigerian cinema.
