Football enthusiasts in Aba, Abia, have expressed disappointment over the Super Eagles inability to defeat Jordan in an international friendly played in Turkey on Tuesday.
The fans, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the encounter which ended 2-2, said the team struggled due to lack of cohesion.
A sports presenter with Magic FM Aba, Tony Ademodi, said the team needed to improve its scoring ability and play with greater focus and tactical discipline to avoid unnecessary mistakes.
Ademodi also expressed disappointment at the performance of Alex Iwobi, who was sent off after reacting angrily to provocation during the match.
He urged the coaching crew to identify a reliable goalkeeper in the mould of Vincent Enyeama, noting that such players inspire confidence in the defence.
Another fan, Uche Adindu, said it was unfortunate that the Super Eagles could not defeat Jordan, who are ranked 64th, far below Nigeria’s 24th position in the latest FIFA rankings.
Adindu said the team’s handlers still had much work to do in the areas of coordination, chance creation and conversion.
“Nigeria needs a good goalkeeper who can command the area and win matches; look at how Francis Uzoho conceded from a spot kick,” he said.
Amanda Obiukwu, another enthusiast, said she had expected the Super Eagles to secure victory after taking the lead in the encounter.
Also speaking, Ugochukwu Obasi said the team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup should serve as an opportunity to rebuild for the future.
