Ikaram, Akoko, Ondo State-born finance expert, Taiwo Oyedele, has practically stolen the heart of President Bola Tinubu who has nominated him as Minister of State for Finance.
He will be replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, who moves to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, her third portfolio in the administration.
Oyedele came to limelight when he headed the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which came up with major changes in the country’s tax culture.
His nomination is contained in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.
Tinubu on Tuesday conveyed Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The committee spearheaded major reforms that overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.
Oyedele, 50, hails from Ikaram, Akoko, in Ondo and holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology.
He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
Oyedele completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science and the Harvard Kennedy School.
He spent 22 years at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University, Ogun State, and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
