The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, has said that no ambition is greater than it.
He said the party’s strength lies in the courage of members who act in its best interest during critical periods.
Mohammed made the remarks on Sunday in Abuja during the 2026 National Elective Convention, an event supported by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, emphasising the need for party cohesion and collective responsibility.
He said that the PDP had emerged from a season of legal battles and internal disagreements, urging members to prioritise party interests above personal ambition, office, or individual aspirations for the sake of unity.
“No ambition is greater than this party. No office is worth weakening this platform,” Mohammed said, adding that members should contest with dignity, disagree respectfully, and organise inclusively for the benefit of Nigeria and the PDP.
Mohammed further said Nigerians were observing, noting the public’s challenges with insecurity, economic hardship, and uncertainty, emphasising that the party must rise to provide leadership that could address national crises and restore confidence in governance.
He called for the convention to become more than an event, describing it as a “movement for inclusiveness, unity, and renewal,” adding that PDP must choose healing over hostility, law over arbitrariness, and hope over despair.
The acting chairman described the convention as a systemic restoration of the party’s soul, insisting that the PDP was not mourning but renewing itself and embracing a constitutional and lawful path forward.
“Recent judicial recognition of the caretaker leadership should not be seen as victory or defeat for any member,” Mohammed said, emphasising that adherence to lawful processes and constitutional principles must guide leadership across the party.
He commended Wike’s strategic interventions that sustained party momentum, and also lauded former Senate President Sen. Bukola Saraki, alongside leaders including Alhaji Sule Lamido, Austen Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turnah, and PDP state chairmen.
Mohammed urged the convention to transition from a political event into a “movement for renewal,” reflecting the party’s commitment to deliver the leadership necessary to tackle Nigeria’s social, economic, and political challenges.
In her goodwill message, Sen. Zainab Kure. highlighted reconciliation as a top priority, expressing optimism that the PDP’s renewed focus on unity and lawful governance would lead the party toward better days in Nigeria.
